ALIAS Chamber Ensemble to Perform at Vanderbilt University's Turne Recital Hall and Donate Concert Proceeds to Next Stage, Inc

September 28, 2009 - Nashville, TN:  ALIAS Chamber Ensemble, Nashville's most eclectic and diverse chamber group, returns to the stage at Turner Recital Hall (at Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music) on November 11, Veterans Day, at 8 p.m.  This concert will honor Veterans by presenting two very different works.  The first is the World Premiere of the chamber arrangement of Always, Always by Pulitzer-prizewinning composer Paul Moravec.  Scored for baritone solo, clarinet and string quartet, Always, Always uses the text of a letter from a Civil War soldier to his wife.  Guest artist baritone Jonathan Carle joins ALIAS for this premiere.  The second piece, The Unlikely Suspect, was composed by Jason Sagebiel, a veteran Marine sniper in Iraq.  All proceeds from the concert will benefit Next Stage, Inc., a Nashville-based organization for homeless veterans.

"We are grateful to have this unique opportunity to honor our veterans through music," said Artistic Director Zeneba Bowers.  "We are also thrilled to be able to present the World Premiere of a chamber work by a major American composer like Paul Moravec.  I think it demonstrates how far we've come as an ensemble that a composer of this stature is writing for us."

ALIAS also begins the 2009/10 season with the second installment of its two-year series "Emerging Voices," focusing on the work of women composers.  American composer Nancy Galbraith wrote String Quartet No.1 in 1996; American Record Guide said of it ".......the work makes a joyful noise and deserves to be heard."

ALIAS will also present four songs by prolific American composer Amy Beach.  Soprano Candice Zimmerman takes the stage to present these beautiful songs, which are scored for voice, violin, cello and piano.

Lastly, in the usual eclectic mix of styles audiences have come to expect, ALIAS will perform Igor Stravinsky's Suite Italienne for cello and piano, a work Stravinksy composed while collaborating with famous cellist Gregor Piatigorsky.

All proceeds from the November 11 concert, which takes place at 8 p.m. in Turner Recital Hall, will benefit Next Stage, Inc.  Birdie Anderson, President & CEO of Next Stage, Inc stated "I am very pleased and honored to have ALIAS Chamber Ensemble's support.  The monetary proceeds from this seasonal concert will help fund the homeless veteran support initiatives we currently have in progress and help us to expand our services in the near future."

Next Stage, Inc. is a Tennessee nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation formed in 2004 to provide assistance to homeless veterans.  The primary objectives include job training, housing, outreach plus referrals to federal, state and local employment agencies and housing provider.  Admission to the concert is $12 (or $5 for students with ID).  Tickets are available by calling (800) 838-3006 or by visiting http://www.aliasmusic.org/tickets.  Click here to view the entire performance schedule.
